Huge news for all Sex and the City fans this morning – the long time rumoured prequel to the hit show has finally been confirmed as going ahead. Steering away from their recent ventures into the world of cinema (which, lets face it, never really worked), this prequel will be screened on the small screen. Carrie is returning to TV! I’m trying not to get too excited as America’s CW Network have only ordered a pilot episode so far with no guarantees that it will ever be turned into a full series, but still a girl can dream! The show will follow Carrie’s teenage years, from the small town she grew up in to the lights of New York City. It will be based on Candace Bushnell’s recent novel ‘The Carrie Diaries’, so we will have the pleasure of not only watching our favourite fashionista grow up, but we will also get to meet the girls as Carrie does.
Even Miley Cyrus is keen for a role, telling Access Hollywood recently that,

Personally, whilst I would love to see an established star in the role (which would give it a greater chance of a series commission), I think the role of Carrie would be best in the hands of an unknown who would be able to mould it into their own.

With no filming dates yet, we’ll just have to wait and see!

This morning has brought fantastic news in the form of the BFC’s announcement that they have selected this year’s Fashion Forward winners. The scheme was devised by the British Fashion Council (BFC) six years ago as a means to help emerging designers establish their business brands. Each year the best of Britain’s design talent are selected for a cash prize which will assist them in showing their collections, and access to business support provided by the BFC which lasts for two seasons. The winners are judged by a panel of fashion experts including Caroline Rush, CEO of the BFC; Francesca Burns, Fashion Editor of Vogue; and Sarah Mower MBE, the BFC ambassador of emerging talent. So who has won this year’s prize? The four winners have been announced as Henry Holland, Louise Gray, Mary Kantrantzou, and James Long (who is the first ever menswear designer to win the award!)
Today is the day we’ve been waiting for since the Versace for H&M collaboration was released back in November – the launch of the Versace for H&M Cruise Collection! Whereas the previous collection reached back to Versace’s roots with bright colours and geometric patterns, the new range sports pastel colours such as lilac and sky blue with lots of white for a fresh look that is perfect for welcoming Spring. Inspiration has been drawn from Greek summer holidays and all things fruity; resulting in ruching at the stomach, one sleeved and halter-neck style necks, and a beautiful fruit print which features heavily throughout. The new range becomes available today from 9am and is being sold exclusively through the H&M website. The last collection sold out in store and online within hours with the website crashing several times during the course of the launch day. Lots of people were left disappointed after H&M’s servers struggled to cope with the number of visitors to the site.
She may have made her name playing psychic vampire Alice Cullen in the ‘Twilight Saga’ but actress Ashley Greene has shown just how far she has come since the first movie in the series in a collection of photos of the actress modelling for DKNY which were released to the media today. The actress was announced as the new face of the brand last month after modelling for their jeans collection in the past and the new campaign seems to be a hit already, attracting lots of media attention this morning. The latest adverts show 24 year old Ashley posing with long, wavy hair in a pair of flared DKNY jeans and simple white tank top in a warehouse, and in a beautiful, billowing, salmon coloured multi skirted dress with tank top style sleeves and nude platforms. Simple but very elegant. After all, surely a psychic vampire air hostess is just what ‘Pan Am’ is missing?

If there is anybody who seems to have it all right now then that person is Kristen Stewart. Not only is she the lead character in one of the most successful franchises of this decade, but she can call one of the most handsome men on the planet her long term boyfriend. The only thing she has been criticised for in the past is her fashion sense; Kristen has embraced her own unique gothic/grunge style over the years, preferring this to the mounds of free designer clothes sent her way. But recently Kristen has been pictured at events wearing designers such as Roberto Cavalli and J Mendel, and the fashion industry has taken notice it seems. Balenciaga today announced that Kristen is to be the face of their new women’s perfume due for release this Autumn.

The fragrance is still unnamed as of today, but this is huge news for Kristen as it is her first major fashion advertising campaign.

CEO of the brand, Isabelle Guichot explained the decision to the same paper,

“Kristen is the perfect choice as she embodies Nicolas Ghesquière’s unique vision for the second chapter in our fragrance history.”

Congratulations Kristen!

I love it when designers collaborate with brands which are so different from their own style that it brings a kind of fashion fusion to the table. The most recent collaboration to be announced has to be one of my favourites of the last 12 months. (Even taking into account Versace for H&M!) Mary Kantrantzou has announced that she is teaming up with Longchamp, who are famous for their simple but beautiful tote bags, to bring us a collection that will be exclusive to French store ‘Collette’ from the end of this month. The collection is exactly what we would expect from Kantrantzou – bold prints inspired by an ‘East meets West’ theme – and is bound to be seen everywhere from their pre-exclusive launch at Collette on January 23rd. Eccentric London-based Greek-born designer Mary Katrantzou is making huge waves on the fashion scene with her bright and exciting designs at the moment and is tipped to be one of the biggest names in the industry. Given her reputation this new range is bound to sell out quickly. If you want to get hold of the bags but aren’t able to get to Paris to join the long queue then [...]

It sounds like London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter ’12/’13 is going to be one of the best yet as Moschino Cheap and Chic announced last night that they are joining the likes of Stella McCartney and McQ, Alexander McQueen’s diffusion line, by showing on our runways next season. Hooray! The label, which is the younger, more flirtatious sister of Moschino, will be exhibiting on Saturday 18th February between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at a mystery location following the move from Milan. Creative Director Rossella Jardini explained, “To début in London with Moschino Cheap & Chic is something I have been thinking about for a while. To have presence in a new city gives the younger line a stronger, more autonomous personality.” This is great news for the British Fashion Council (BFC) who are still battling Milan over plans to change fashion week dates for Spring/Summer ’13. Looks like 2012 is going to be a great year for the London fashion scene!
