It’s official. The fashion industry is seeing stars. From Dolce and Gabbana to Biba, designers are using this print everywhere. I blame Christopher Kane whose constellation dress has been one of the hits of the year, being photographed on numerous red carpets. The rest of the industry is sticking with the conventional star, but it is unmistakeable that this is going to be a huge look. There are two ways to wear stars – cute or sophisticated. Go all out with bold patterns and pretty embellishments or keep it subtle and simple. Whichever way you choose to go it, this is a look which is great fun to work.
Very much in the ‘cute’ category are these pretty heels from KG by Kurt Geiger. I love the cartoon-style print which stretches down to the heel. The height of these is great, they’ll lengthen your leg and give your calves a toned “I spend 3 hours at the gym everyday” look. Some may question the size of the bow, but I think it works. They make the shoe look more fun and are in keeping with the overall theme. Great for those days when you just want to bring some sparkle to your look!
I’ve seen a lot of fantastic star printed blouses recently – the light fabrics often used seem to work really well with the pattern, and this gorgeous piece is my favourite of the lot. With the sharp cut, billowing sleeves, sheer material, and neck tie, this looks more designer than Marks and Spencer – but that is exactly what it is. M&S have really pushed the boat out with this one, and the effort has paid off. This would be fantastic around the office. Love it.
Warehouse have a reputation for producing pretty but practical clothes, and this funky tee does nothing to dispel that. Smarter than your average white t-shirt, this one is dotted with hundreds of tiny stars, taking it to another level. The keyhole detail at the back is very flirty, as are the billowing short sleeves. At just under £40 this is great value too. Very nice.
This Queen and Belle piece is much more than just a cardigan. The cut is exquisite and so flattering. The deep V neck on a lesser item could be harsh, but on this is gentle. The soft pale blue shade is perfect for wearing during a chilly summer day or through Autumn and Winter. The star button details are at the centre of your attention at all times and really make it outstanding. Queen and Belle are fantastic at including their trademark crown emblem in their work and always manage to do so without making it look tacky. Here it features on the pocket and doesn’t detract from the minimalist nature of the piece. This cardigan is made of the softest cashmere from Scotland and is worth the money. This will be the best thing you buy all season, trust me.If you like accessories then check out this belt from Alice by Temperley – feminine but with edge. At a distance these look like ordinary stars, but on closer inspection actually resemble a Sheriff’s badge, giving it some serious attitude. Temperley is renowned for her craftsmanship, and she doesn’t disappoint here. This belt can be worn with jeans in its conventional manner, or can be worn around the waist to dress it up. Fantastic.
