It’s a rumour that has been hanging around for a little while now but today the whispers seem to be more like shouts; could Tom Ford be the ninth designer to collaborate with H&M on an exclusive collection?
BusinessWeek led the reports this morning with a quote fromMargareta van den Bosch – H&M’s Creative Advisor.
“(Tom Ford is) a very interesting name,” she said, “I can say, I wouldn’t mind.”
However, the chain have not yet been in contact with the man himself and he had no comment today.
If the rumours are true then the designer will join names such as Jimmy Choo, Karl Lagerfeld, Matthew Williamson, and Versace whose collaboration goes on sale tomorrow and is expected to sell out within hours.
Speaking of Versace and H&M; the New York Daily News is alleging that they scheduled a photo shoot featuring real women wearing items from the new collection but at the last minute the shoot was cancelled.
“The H&M publicist initially explained by email that the “Model New Yorkers” photo feature could probably not go forward because Versace had to approve “anyone who wears the collection for press” — and, she added, “Donatella will likely not approve shooting the collection on real women.”
A pretty damning statement, but it gets worse. NYDN alleges that when they sent photos of the models proposed only one was selected with the explanation that the other didn’t fit Versace’s branding. Ouch.
Despite this report something tells me H&M are going to have a very good week anyway…
