Huge news for all Sex and the City fans this morning – the long time rumoured prequel to the hit show has finally been confirmed as going ahead.
Steering away from their recent ventures into the world of cinema (which, lets face it, never really worked), this prequel will be screened on the small screen.
Carrie is returning to TV!
I’m trying not to get too excited as America’s CW Network have only ordered a pilot episode so far with no guarantees that it will ever be turned into a full series, but still a girl can dream!
The show will follow Carrie’s teenage years, from the small town she grew up in to the lights of New York City.
It will be based on Candace Bushnell’s recent novel ‘The Carrie Diaries’, so we will have the pleasure of not only watching our favourite fashionista grow up, but we will also get to meet the girls as Carrie does.
No names have been officially linked to the pilot episode yet, but rumours that have circulated for the last few months name Blake Lively as being in the running to play Carrie (though I see her more as Samantha to be honest), with Emma Roberts, Chloe Moretz, and Emma Stone also being named as possible additions to the cast.
Even Miley Cyrus is keen for a role, telling Access Hollywood recently that,
“I would love it. I’m not attached, so I don’t want to say that, but that would be very cool.”
Personally, whilst I would love to see an established star in the role (which would give it a greater chance of a series commission), I think the role of Carrie would be best in the hands of an unknown who would be able to mould it into their own.
With no filming dates yet, we’ll just have to wait and see!
