After what seems like the shortest (but most stylish) pregnancy I have ever seen, Beyoncé Knowles delivered a healthy baby girl on Saturday night at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York.
The baby girl was delivered by a scheduled C-Section.
So what did they name their first child? After a bit of confusion Beyoncé’s BFF Gwyneth Paltrow has confirmed that the baby girl is named Blue Ivy Carter.
It is thought that ‘Ivy’ is reference to the Roman numerals ‘IV’ which means ’4′ – the couple’s lucky number because it is the date of both their birthdays and their wedding anniversary (not to mention the fact that it is the name of Beyoncé’s current album – quite a unique way to promote your latest work!)
There hasn’t been official confirmation of the birth from the couple yet (to be fair, they probably have their hands full right now), but a host of their celebrity friends have tweeted their congratulations,
“Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih”, tweeted Rihanna.
Beyoncé’s sister Solange declared baby Blue to be,
“The most beautiful girl in the world.”
The New York Daily News reported yesterday that the couple paid over $1 million to exclusively hire an entire floor of the hospital so that Bey could give birth in private. She is said to have checked in under the alias Ingrid Jackson in order to fool reporters who were eagerly awaiting the birth.
I’m sure the new parents will appreciate their privacy over the coming weeks so all that is left to say is congratulations!
